No questions to ask

Freya sighed as she watched the odd symbol on the table in front of her. Divination really wasn’t her greatest subject; she tried and tested rather than ask, and right now she couldn’t come up with a better question than how something with a pentagram on could have 4 corners… But she would at least have to try, if not she’d bring the other one down as well!
Glancing up at her partner, currently busy with the pendulum, she knew she must look pretty miserable when she asked “Do you have any idea of what to ask?”

Delfina had been concentrating on the pentacle for the last ten minutes as Freya brainstormed for a good question. Maybe it was easier to answer the questions of others than it was to answer your own, because Delfina's query of "will Hufflepuff win the house cup" had only been met with swings between both sets of opposite corners. Questions about the Quidditch cup hadn't yielded anything substantial either.
She leaned back in her seat, taking a break from the building frustration. Passing the pendulum across the table to Freya, she said, "Yeah, ask if my house is going to win the house cup. Maybe ask if Ravenclaw will lose if it needs something more specific," at least Hufflepuff had a gotten a Maybe; it would be a reassuring highlight of the day if Delfina knew that the Eagles weren't going to be a threat.

Freya couldn't help but to grin at the question
"Nice try, didn't think of that... Oh, but then I know!"

Holding out the pendulum over the paper, making sure the tip was still in hte middle at fist, she concentrated for a moment before asking out loud "Will I make it onto the Gryffindor Quidditch-team as a beater this year?"

She then stared as the pendulum began to swing slowly...

Another beater applicant! Now all Delfina had to do was make it onto Hufflepuff's team and find a beater from Slytherin; then she'd have a Quidditch rival from every house. It was a bit of a shame, though. Freya, despite being a Gryffindor, was a pretty nice girl to be around (even if she was crazy strong). Oh well, maybe it could be a no-hard-feelings friendly competition should they meet in the arena.
In any case, Freya had come up with a good question. Delfina would have to try it out afterwards, pending on how well it worked for the Gryffindor.

watching as the little pointer began to move and quite soon made way up to a corner Freya let out a small shriek of joy, making some students around them jump. Dropping the pendant to raise both her hands above her head with a loud "YES!" she probably couldn't look happier. She still had a chanse!! It wouldn't be any competition if she knew the outcome, but this was great!

Delfina moved back an inch, startled by Freya's reaction. It wasn't like the pendulum had gone to the Yes sides. Then again, it was better than a flat out No. Suddenly, Delfina didn't have the courage to ask the pentacle about her own Quidditch tryout chances. Best she leave it and find out come tryout day.
Instead, she had a idea on how to wrap up the assignment. Picking up the pendulum off the table, Delfina asked, "Will we have to stay after class is dismissed to finish this assignment?" The question was specific enough, leaving the pentacle and pendulum to only say No; an answer either way would mean the conclusion to the day's assignment.
However, the pendulum could be difficult and swing Maybe or spin in circles until long after class had ended. Delfina really hoped that wouldn't become the case, though.

staring at the little pointer at the end of the string Freya almost tried to move it by pure will-power to point at No... Well, they were asking questions, weren't they?! And they had got this thing to move! They had done everything one could ask for!

She was going to pop a vein in her eye, but Delfina couldn't stop staring, no, GLARING at the pendulum as it started to gyrate in small circles. Soon enough though, it began to swing in a straight path from side to side.
"YES! Finally!" Delfina mimicked Freya's cheer from earlier, only she had tossed the pendulum upwards in the process. It hit the ceiling and landed on another group's table, earning the Hufflepuff a couple of glares.
She slowly put her arms back down. "Oops..."

only able to stare as the pendulum was sent flying Freya was not late with cracking up at the sight of both that, her table-mates face and the look of the people who were almost hit by it! Laughing and gasping for breath she leaned on the table, unable to stop (and not really up for trying to)! With this reaction she earned both more looks and glares than Delfina, and once she gasped for breath one could even hear a few giggles at her...

Delfina was amazed by how Freya was able to make an awkward moment and then be her own comic relief. At least the Gryffindor's laughter had been taken in a good way by the rest of the class. The neighboring table had politely passed the pendulum back to her while Freya continued to giggle.
She decided now was a good time to get Professor Seraphim's attention so they could finish and leave.

"I give you five points for that clear hit, as a spectator..." Was the first thing she said once she could breathe normally.
By now the class was used to her, and it seemed like most just tagged along with her ideas, and Freya hardly minded...

This lesson was more fun than she expected! Grabbing the pendant she giggled again while holding it over the paper "Will the rest of the day be as fun as this?"
with a grin she noticed that it didn't take too long for the pointer to move...

They'd been cleared to leave, having completed the assignment. However, Delfina and Freya had actually finished early and still had some time left before the class would be dismissed.
Heck yes; free time. Delfina didn't understand why anyone would dislike the Divinations course. It was fun deriving tidbits from the future, like making your own weather forecast!
She watched Freya ask another question. They would probably take turns with the pendulum and pentacle for the rest of the remaining class time.

grinning athte answer Freya ooked up at the other girl "'Maybe', eh?" she said, wriggling her eyebrows in a ridicolus over-suggestinve manner
"You really get you future clear as mud in here!"

Delfina smiled, "It'd be too easy if we always got a straight answer. Glad we were able to clear the assignment early, though." She held out her hand, "May I?"

"Yeah, sure thing!" Grinning Freya handed the pendant back to the other girl
"Nice to know you get your grades..."

Maybe part of learning Divination was knowing which questions not to bother with. Delfina hadn't gotten anything regarding the school cups, so she would have to think of something fairer to ask.
"Will it rain this week?" The pendulum acted much quicker than before, giving a No in reply. "Great!" Delfina said more to herself, "Maybe I can practice for Quidditch tryouts later, then."

"'Maybe'? Of course you will!"
But now she was all out of questions... What to do...? Looking around at what all the others were asking didn't give her much of an idea either...

"The Professor did say we could leave earlier, right?"

"Yeah, he did..." Delfina started to pack her bag. She didn't have another class until later in the afternoon, so she was left with a fair amount of freetime until then.

"Perfect, I'm still behind on that Transfiguration-essay..."
getting her own bag and folding up the tablecloth she handed both that and the pendant to the Professor, and was then left to wonder if she should wait for Delfina or not...

Catching up on homework didn't seem like a bad idea, but it was nearly noon and Delfina had yet to eat that day.
"Hey, are you hungry right now?"

"Well, yeah, actually I am, a bit. But I was thinking I could reward myself with dinner wonce I got the essay done, it isn't much left. You don't have to wait for me."
Smiling she patted the other girl on the arm and headed off towards the library, hoping she wouldn't fall asleep this time...

She watched Freya continue down the corridor until she turned a corner and was out of sight. Shrugging, Delfina started towards the Grand Hall alone.
