Exploring the Castle

Marching down the hall the young Gryffindor couldn’t be anything but pleased by the steady beating of her boots against the stone-floor. She was heading towards the Great Hall, knowing it was tea-time but hardly doing there to have a meal. No, she would just be grabbing some fruit and other good stuff and then continue to walk the halls. An odd habit, but she was sure there was still some places in this castle she had not seen…

And who to bump into just as she turned the corner, but the resident blind squib of Hogwarts? Argos fell back and let go of his walking stick, apologizing almost immediately after being knocked down, "I'm sorry!"

blinking, more surprised than hurt, Freya eyed the boy on the floor
"Nah, was probably my fault to."
not even waiting for the boy to accept an offered hand the simply leaned down and grabbed him by the arm, dragging him to his feet, before noticing the stick on the floor. Assuming it was his she picked it up and held it out for him

"H-Huh?!" Feeling himself righted to standing position, he smiled a bit sheepishly, "Um, do you mind passing my walking stick to me? I'm blind..."

"Oh, so that's what this thing's for!"
She'd never really seen one before... But she gently tapped him on the arm with it, rather than humilating him with putting everything in his hand, like he was some kind of baby...

Argos took his stick back gratefully, smiling at Freya, "Thanks." He extended his left hand in the direction of her voice, "I'm Argos Wong, uh...I'm not actually a student here..."

She took his hand and shook it firmly, as one would with any equal
"Freya Williams, and I am a student here. May I ask what you are doing here then? Visiting relatives?"

"Uh, not really..." He was a bit surprised at the firm shake, but smiled regardless, "My father's the muggle art's professor and wants to keep me around here for some reason... He won't tell me what though, so sometimes I drop into a class and listen to the lessons, but there's only so much I can learn without seeing the practical spells, right?" Argos' smiled turned a bit sheepish again.

Freya frowned
"I'm not being rude to your dad now or anything, but that sounds like a quite lame excuse. You can learn, no doubt about that, and even you could get some good shileds up, you don't need precise aim for that."

Really, what were they thinking? But no doubt about it, this was the kind of people her dad would want her to keep an eye on...

"Oh, I can't practice magic." He let go of her hand, sighing a bit as he hung his head in embarrassment, "I'm a squib, I've got no magic at all. Best I can do is learn the theory and hope I can avoid a curse or jynx in time."

"Or you can be a poitons-master or write what you learn in that dot-writing muggles use so more blind people amongst wizards can read stuff. You really give up too easily."
But now she knew his face and voice, she'd remember.. and keep an eye out.

"I'd need to see where the cauldron was to be a potioneer. And some potions require a wand wave or two, from what my cousins tell me." He frowned a bit when she said 'dot language', "Unfortunately, not many people in the world know how to read Braille, it's almost another code altogether for people."

Freya shhok her head
"If blind people can cook you can do that. You just have to know where it is, after som practice you know exactly. It's just by habit. And about that whatever-you-said-it-was-called-code; People like you still need it, don't they. I bet it's just the lack of books that keeps people from learning it."

((wierd, they have a whole libraray for it here, and htey have a quite big section for it in every libraay I've been to))

"Hm, I suppose..." He smiled a bit, "You're really optimistic, aren't you Freya? I haven't much reason to be at all, so I guess that keeps me from doing a lot of things."

Freya just huffed at him
"You'll have to change that first of all then. Losers rarely makes it anywhere."

"I like to think of myself more of a bystander really."

"And you want to just keep on standing by the side your whole life, never doing anything to get your now happiness or to help those around you? You're a really egoisic and lazy one, aren't you?"
She was pretty sure she could be called cruel, but she would never speak anything but the truth, and this guy needed some of it. If he had been surrouned by people guarding and pitying him he'd just grow up to be onw great whimp.

He scratched the back of his head, looking a bit confused, "So are we talking about life being a great race still? Or something else..." Argos shrugged a bit, "I'd just rather keep myself out of everyone's way, less trouble to not worry about the blind guy, you know?" Hearing a familiar jangle of bells, he smiled a little, "But what help I can give, I give in fullest."

"Life isn't a race, it's a struggle. And if you aren't actually fighting for what you want you'll just bother everyone who cares about you. You leave it to them to make sure you're happy, which is just lazy and ungrateful. You shouldn't only help with what you can, you have to take care of yourself and then some; you have to try!"
She then frowned at the sound of the bells, not knowing where they came from...

"I see I see..." he nodded in agreement, still smiling slightly, "My limits are only there as long as I set them there, is what you're saying, right?"

"Yeah, and you'll never actually know where they are unless you test them. And you can overwork them."
Finally he got it. But even so she knew she'd probably end up trying to help him anyway...

"It just takes time and determination." His smile didn't change as he said, "Thanks for the advice, Freya."

"Advice? Well, if that's how you see it..."
Now sh could just hope he wasn't faking the smile and would actaully do something...
